The ICC World Twenty20 West Indies 2010 Tournament Director, Robert Bryan, talks about how preparations are going ahead of the event on this week’s ICC Cricket World audio show.
The tournament takes place in Guyana, St Lucia, Barbados and St Kitts from 30 April to 16 May 2010 and Bryan is confident the Caribbean is ready to ‘Bring it’.
The Jamaican said: “The tournament is shaping up quite nicely here and the excitement is definitely building in the West Indies. We’re looking forward to completing the preparations and entering into the final couple of weeks before we welcome the teams. We’re definitely ready to ‘Bring It’.
“We’re expecting full houses so we get maximum capacity in the various venues across the West Indies. I think the ICC World Twenty20 will capture the fun, excitement and unique flavour of the Caribbean. I think we do believe there is no better place to throw a party than the West Indies. We’re looking forward to a really competitive series of matches.”
Also on this week’s show, Australia’s Shaun Tait looks back at his cricketing heroes who have a West Indian flavour to them.
The 27-year-old South Australian said: “I had a few heroes growing up but I liked the West Indies. I’d have to say Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh were two bowlers I admired the most when they shared the ball. I used to like watching Ambrose bowl.
“Australians I looked up to has to be Mark Waugh and the way he batted was so stylish and bowling-wise Glenn McGrath was great. When he took the ball – you knew a wicket was coming.”
Meanwhile, Nepal captain Paras Khadka looks back on his team’s victory at the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 5 revealing his inspiration came from the success of Asian neighbour Afghanistan.
“I think Afghanistan has totally inspired us along and they are doing so well in the ICC Intercontinental Cup as well as qualifying for the ICC World Twenty20 and hopefully we can make it through the same as them to get ODI status and onto the World Cup.”
Apart from the above interviews, this week’s ICC Cricket World audio show also includes a round-up of the last seven days in cricket and an update on the Reliance Mobile ICC Player Rankings.
