Email West Indies legspinner Devendra Bishoo's impressive performance in his first year in international cricket has been recognised by the ICC. Bishoo, 25, has been named the 2011 Emerging Player of the Year at the ICC Awards ceremony held in London. During the voting period between August 11, 2010 to August 3, 2011, Bishoo played five Tests taking 21 wickets at an average of 35.42. He also picked up 19 wickets at 21.57 a piece in 11 ODIs. Bishoo also had competition from fellow West Indies player Darren Bravo and Wahab Riaz and Azhar Ali from Pakistan. Bishoo could not believe it when he was nominated for the ICC Emerging Player of the Year and dedicated the award to his father, who according to him, played a great role in his life and encouraged him to play cricket.
