EmailThe West Indies showed the world they are a force in the 2011 World Cup by convincingly thrashing Bangladesh by nine wickets in their Group B encounter in Mirpur. Bangladesh were routed for 58 in 18.5, with the WINDIES only requiring the use of 3 of their bowlers, Roach, Benn and Sammy. The West Indies reached their target, replying with 59 for 1 wicket in 12.2 overs. Bangladesh's batsmen offered no resistance to a disciplined West Indies bowling performance. Sulieman Benn took 4-18, while Kemar Roach continued his impressive World Cup with 3-19 and Captain Darren Sammy 3-21. In the WINDIES reply, Chris Gayle entertained with 37 not out, and Darren Bravo 9 not out, while Devon Smith was the sole batsman out for 6. Bangladesh's total of 58 is now the lowest total made by a Full Member nation in a World Cup. Their performance was not well received by the fans either, as objects were thrown onto the field after the game as well as an incident of stoning the bus carrying the West Indies team from the Stadium. This victory by the West Indies gives them a very good chance to qualify for the quarter-finals following England's shocking loss to Ireland.
